In a Freudian world the individual is the product of his past. But in a different world the individual is a product of his future.
What you are today, including the psychotic manifestations in some of us are the result of what happened in the past, in a strict linear time equation. The present has a cause in the past, that’s it! Now, that doesn’t appeal to me at all because by being in an obvious impossibility of changing the past it means that I cannot change my present. Changing my present is the essential engine of life itself. I need a different way of looking at being and that is what I was inspired to do one day by reading Jung’s book. I didn’t want to accept I am doing things “because of something I cannot change”. So therefore I rejected the cause and effect paradigm right away when I became aware of it at a deeper level and when I discovered something better to replace it with. I am not a consequence. I live in the now and I have a purpose. So I don’t do things “because”, I do things “for”.
I don’t have a predetermined destiny. I have a purpose. I take responsibility and make that purpose every moment of my life, even when I sleep, I’m still making it. This is something that I call the individual time equation. It can only make sense at an individual level.
